Lancaster, PA: Local Woman Stunned by Attic Chickening AdventureLancaster, PA: Local Woman Stunned by Attic Chickening Adventure Sarah Jenkins, a 45-year-old resident of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, has become the unlikely owner of a peculiar poultry population after discovering 23 chickens nesting in her attic. “I was cleaning out some old boxes when I heard a strange noise,” Jenkins recalled. “I looked up and there they were, clucking and pecking away.” Jenkins was initially baffled by the chickens’ presence in her home. She has no pets and does not raise poultry. After inspecting her property, she realized that a loose roof shingle had given the chickens access to the attic through a small opening. Over time, the chickens had made themselves comfortable in their cozy new abode. They had laid eggs, built nests, and created a pecking order among themselves. Jenkins, who is a vegetarian, was both amused and slightly horrified by the situation. “I’m not sure how they managed to survive up there,” she said. “There’s no food or water in the attic.” Undeterred, Jenkins decided to take responsibility for her feathered occupants. She contacted a local animal sanctuary, which agreed to take in the chickens. “I’m just glad I found them before they caused any damage,” Jenkins said. “It’s not every day you discover a poultry party in your attic.” The Lancaster Animal Sanctuary has named the chickens “The Attic All-Stars” and is currently caring for them. According to sanctuary staff, the chickens are healthy and well-socialized. “They’re a little bit shell-shocked from their adventure,” said animal care technician Emily Carter. “But they’re adjusting well to their new surroundings.” Jenkins, meanwhile, has had her roof fixed and vows to keep a closer eye on her avian neighbors. “I guess I’ll just have to accept that my attic is now a chicken co-op,” she said with a laugh. “At least I know where to get fresh eggs for brunch.”
