Two firefighters sustained injuries while battling the flames. According to the Detroit Fire Department, the fire broke out at a vacant warehouse located on Chene Street near Mt. Elliott Avenue around 1:30 a.m. Crews arrived on scene to find heavy smoke and flames billowing from the structure. Two firefighters entered the warehouse to search for possible victims but were met with intense heat and smoke conditions. They were able to escape but sustained injuries during the evacuation. The injured firefighters were transported to a local hospital, where they were treated for smoke inhalation and heat-related injuries. Their conditions were not immediately released. Firefighters fought the blaze for several hours, eventually bringing it under control at around 6:00 a.m. The warehouse was heavily damaged, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. “We are grateful that our firefighters were able to escape without serious injuries,” said Detroit Fire Chief James Harris. “They put their lives on the line every day to protect our city.” The Detroit Fire Department reminds the public to be aware of the dangers associated with abandoned buildings. They urge residents to report any suspicious activity or smoke conditions to 911 immediately.
