Over the past week, the sanctuary has welcomed an astonishing 200 animals, including cats, dogs, rabbits, and even a pig. The sanctuary’s staff and volunteers are working tirelessly to provide medical care, food, and shelter for the new residents. Many of the animals come in with various health issues, including malnutrition, injuries, and parasite infestations. “This is the most animals we’ve ever had at one time,” said Executive Director Emily Williams. “It’s a huge responsibility, but we’re determined to give these animals the love and care they deserve.” The surge in abandoned pets is attributed to a combination of factors, including the economic downturn, pet overpopulation, and irresponsible relinquishment. The sanctuary is urging the community to spay and neuter their pets, and to only adopt animals that they can properly care for. “Pets are not disposable,” said Williams. “They deserve to be loved and treated with respect. If you can’t provide that, please don’t bring a pet into your home.” The sanctuary is in urgent need of donations to help cover the costs of caring for the new arrivals. They are also seeking foster homes to provide temporary shelter for the animals until they can be adopted. “Every little bit helps,” said Williams. “Whether it’s a monetary donation, a foster home, or simply sharing our story, you can make a difference in the lives of these animals.” For more information on the Asheville Sanctuary for Abandoned Pets and how to support their mission, please visit their website at www.ashevillesanctuary.org.
