City Council Approves New Waterpark in San AntonioCity Council Approves New Waterpark in San Antonio In a unanimous vote, the San Antonio City Council has approved plans for a new waterpark, set to open in 2024. The $200 million project, named “Aquatica San Antonio,” will be located on a 50-acre site near the I-35 corridor. Aquatica San Antonio will be the city’s first major waterpark in over 30 years. It will feature a variety of attractions for all ages, including towering water slides, lazy rivers, wave pools, and splash zones. The park will also have a spacious cabana area, food and beverage outlets, and a family-friendly entertainment venue. “Aquatica San Antonio will be a world-class destination that will provide families and tourists alike with a fun and memorable experience,” said Mayor Ron Nirenberg. “This investment in our community will create jobs and boost economic development.” The project is expected to create over 500 construction jobs and 300 permanent jobs once the park opens. It is also estimated to generate over $100 million in annual economic impact for San Antonio. “Aquatica San Antonio will be a significant addition to our city’s attractions lineup,” said City Manager Erik Walsh. “We are confident that this waterpark will be a popular destination for locals and visitors alike for years to come.” The park’s developers, SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment, are known for creating some of the world’s most thrilling and immersive theme park experiences. Aquatica San Antonio will be the company’s 14th waterpark worldwide. “We are excited to bring our brand of waterpark entertainment to San Antonio,” said Mark Pauls, president of SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment. “Aquatica San Antonio will offer guests of all ages a unique and unforgettable day of fun and adventure.” Construction on Aquatica San Antonio is expected to begin in early 2023. The park is scheduled to open in the summer of 2024.
