The decision was made after careful consideration of the current trajectory of the virus and the potential impact on the symphony’s operations. With rising case numbers and staffing shortages, the symphony has determined that providing a safe and enjoyable concert experience is not possible at this time. “We are deeply disappointed to have to cancel these concerts, but we believe it is the responsible course of action given the current circumstances,” said Corey Cowden, President & CEO of the San Antonio Symphony. “Our priority is the well-being of our musicians, staff, and audience, and we cannot risk their safety.” The symphony is working closely with artists and ticket holders to reschedule affected concerts as soon as possible. Patrons who have already purchased tickets will be contacted by the box office to discuss options. “We understand that this is frustrating news for our loyal patrons,” said Cowden. “We want to assure them that we are committed to bringing live music back to the Tobin Center as soon as it is safe to do so.” The symphony has implemented strict health and safety protocols, including mask mandates, proof of vaccination or negative COVID-19 tests, and increased sanitation measures. However, the rapid spread of the Omicron variant has made it impossible to guarantee the safety of large gatherings at this time. The San Antonio Symphony encourages everyone to get vaccinated, boosted, and follow public health guidelines to help slow the spread of COVID-19. The symphony hopes to resume concerts as soon as possible and looks forward to once again sharing the transformative power of live music with the community.
