The colossal sculpture, named “Spudtacular,” quickly became a symbol of the city’s rich food heritage and quirky charm. The statue was commissioned by the Pittsburgh Potato Growers Association and designed by renowned sculptor Thaddeus Tuberville. Its creation took over two years and required the use of over 100 tons of bronze. “We wanted to create a piece that would not only celebrate the importance of potatoes to our city but also bring joy and whimsy to our streets,” said Association President Harold “Tater” Smith. The unveiling ceremony drew a large crowd of locals and tourists alike.
