Abandoned for years, the historic structure has been acquired by the Toledo-Lucas County Health Department (TLCHD) and will soon serve as a hub for essential healthcare services. The $18 million project, funded by a combination of state and local grants, will transform the 40,000-square-foot warehouse into a state-of-the-art facility offering a comprehensive range of health services, including: * Primary care and preventive medicine * Chronic disease management * Behavioral health services * Dental care * Substance abuse treatment The new health center will be conveniently located in a neighborhood that faces significant health disparities. The project aims to address these disparities by providing affordable, accessible healthcare services to residents who have limited access to care. “This health center will be a game-changer for our community,” said Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz. “It will not only improve access to essential healthcare services but also create jobs and revitalize the neighborhood.” The TLCHD worked closely with community groups and residents to design the new health center to meet the specific needs of the community. The facility will feature a welcoming and inviting atmosphere, with spacious waiting areas, private exam rooms, and a dedicated space for community events and health education. “This is a historic moment for Toledo,” said Dr. David Grossman, Commissioner of the TLCHD. “We are committed to ensuring that every resident of our city has access to quality healthcare, and this new health center will play a vital role in making that happen.” The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2024. Once open, the community health center will provide a beacon of hope for the residents of Toledo, offering them a healthier future and a brighter tomorrow.
