Salt Lake City Buzz: Mayor Announces Citywide Recycling ExpansionSalt Lake City Buzz: Mayor Announces Citywide Recycling Expansion Salt Lake City – Mayor Erin Mendenhall announced a significant expansion to the city’s recycling program, aiming to increase participation and reduce landfill waste. “Every piece of recyclable material kept out of the landfill is a step towards a cleaner, more sustainable future for our city,” said Mayor Mendenhall. The expansion will include: * Expanded Material Acceptance: The city will now accept additional recyclable materials, including: * Glass (all colors) * Metal (tin cans, aluminum foil) * Plastic bottles, jugs, and tubs (Types 1-7) * Paper (newspapers, magazines, cardboard) * Electronics (e-waste) * New Recycling Bins: All residential and commercial properties will be provided with new, larger recycling bins with clear sorting instructions. * Increased Collection Frequency: Recycling will be collected twice a week for most households and businesses. * Education and Outreach: The city will launch a comprehensive education campaign to inform residents and businesses about the new program. The expansion is part of Mayor Mendenhall’s “Salt Lake City Green” initiative, which aims to make Salt Lake City the greenest city in the United States. “By expanding our recycling program, we are empowering our community to take meaningful action against climate change,” said Council Member Amy Fowler, chair of the City Council’s Sustainability Committee.
