The City of Pittsburgh, in collaboration with various partners, has secured funding to establish over 100 EV charging stations in key locations such as public parking garages, commercial centers, and municipal facilities. These stations will offer a range of charging speeds, from standard Level 2 to fast DC chargers, catering to the diverse charging needs of EV drivers. “This project represents our collective commitment to fostering a vibrant and sustainable transportation system for Pittsburgh,” said Mayor William Peduto. “By providing accessible and reliable charging infrastructure, we are encouraging residents and businesses to embrace EVs and reduce our city’s carbon footprint.” The new charging stations will significantly expand the existing EV infrastructure in Pittsburgh, making it easier for drivers to find charging points near their homes, workplaces, and destinations. This convenience is expected to boost EV adoption rates and reduce the barriers to EV ownership for many residents. “The availability of convenient charging stations is crucial in driving the adoption of EVs,” said Matt Barr, CEO of the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership. “These stations will make it easier for people to make the switch to electric vehicles, which will not only benefit our environment but also support the local economy.” The initiative is also in line with Pennsylvania’s larger goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The state has set a target of having 1 million EVs on the road by 2030. By providing accessible charging options, Pittsburgh is contributing to this statewide effort to promote cleaner transportation. “We commend the leadership of the City of Pittsburgh in taking this proactive step towards EV adoption,” said Patrick Kane, President and CEO of the Pennsylvania Automotive Association. “The installation of these charging stations will not only benefit EV drivers but also support the growth of the EV industry in Pennsylvania.” The project is expected to be completed in phases over the next few years, with the first charging stations expected to be operational by the end of 2023.
