Beginning around 11:30 PM CST, numerous meteors streaked across the sky, leaving brilliant trails of light in their wake. The meteors were part of the Orionid meteor shower, which occurs annually when Earth passes through the debris trail of Comet Halley. “I couldn’t believe my eyes,” said resident Emily Carter. “It was like something out of a movie. I saw dozens of meteors, some of them really big and bright.” According to experts, the Orionid meteor shower is known for its high rate of visibility and the potential for fireballs, which are unusually large and bright meteors. “This year’s Orionid shower was particularly active,” said Dr. Amelia Jones, an astronomer at the University of Iowa. “The peak of the shower occurred around midnight, and we saw up to 50 meteors per hour.” Many residents took to social media to share their awe and excitement. “Best meteor shower I’ve ever seen!” tweeted Chad Stevens. “Never thought I’d see a shooting star, let alone so many of them,” wrote Sarah Williams. The meteor shower reached its peak around 1:30 AM before gradually tapering off. However, residents reported seeing scattered meteors throughout the night. “I’m so glad I stayed up,” said resident John Smith. “It was a truly unforgettable experience.”
