The new trail winds through a diverse landscape, featuring stunning views of the Ohio River, rolling hills, and lush greenery. It includes amenities such as benches, picnic areas, and a fishing pier. Mayor Lloyd Winnecke said, “This trail extension is a testament to our commitment to providing residents with access to outdoor recreation and enhancing our city’s quality of life.” The Evansville Riverbank Trail has become a popular destination for walking, running, biking, and birdwatching. It connects several parks, museums, and other attractions, making it an ideal place to explore the city. The extension was funded by a $4.5 million grant from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources and a $1 million contribution from Evansville Parks Foundation. “This trail is a win-win for our community,” said Evansville Parks Foundation Executive Director Sarah Birkhead. “Not only does it promote health and wellness, but it also boosts tourism and attracts new businesses to our city.” The Riverbank Trail extension is expected to attract approximately 40,000 visitors annually and add $2 million to the local economy. It is also part of a long-term plan to develop a comprehensive trail network connecting Evansville to neighboring communities. As the sun sets over the Ohio River, the Evansville Riverbank Trail provides a picturesque escape for residents and visitors alike.
