The incident occurred on Central Avenue near Hillcrest Road. Witnesses reported that a silver sedan was traveling eastbound when it hit a large pothole, causing the vehicle to launch into the air. The car soared approximately 20 feet before landing on the shoulder of the road. Miraculously, the driver and passenger were not seriously injured. “It was like something out of a movie,” said John Smith, a nearby resident who witnessed the crash. “The car just went flying through the air. I thought for sure someone was going to get hurt.” Emergency responders quickly arrived on the scene and assessed the damage. The car was towed from the scene, and the pothole was temporarily filled. Authorities are investigating the incident and are urging drivers to be aware of road hazards, especially during the winter months when potholes are more common. “This is a reminder that potholes can be dangerous,” said Dubuque Police Chief Mark Droll. “Motorists should always be alert and drive at a safe speed.” The Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) has launched a campaign to repair potholes and prevent future incidents. The DOT urges drivers to report any potholes they encounter by calling 515-239-1758 or visiting https://iowadot.gov/travelinformation/winter/pothole-reporting.
