Local Teen Shatters City Mile Record in MilwaukeeLocal Teen Shatters City Mile Record in Milwaukee In a stunning display of athleticism, 17-year-old Daniel Harris has broken the long-standing city record in the mile run. The Milwaukee native clocked an impressive time of 4:05.12 at the Lakeside Classic on Saturday, June 18. Harris’s record-breaking performance marked the first time a Milwaukee teenager has run a sub-4:06 mile. The previous record of 4:07.50 had stood for over 20 years. “I’m still in shock,” said Harris after the race. “I knew I was in good shape, but I never thought I could run that fast.” The young runner’s triumph has not only earned him a place in Milwaukee running history but has also brought renewed excitement to the sport in the city. “Daniel’s record is an inspiration to all young athletes,” said Milwaukee Running Club president Jason Thomas. “It shows that with hard work and determination, anything is possible.” Harris, a junior at Rufus King High School, began running competitively in middle school. He has since won numerous city and conference championships, and he is ranked among the top high school milers in the state. “I love running because it pushes me to be the best I can be,” said Harris. “It’s a sport that requires a lot of hard work and sacrifice, but it’s also incredibly rewarding.” Harris’s coach, Tom Murphy, said that the teenager has a “natural talent for running.” However, he also credited Harris’s relentless work ethic and unwavering belief in himself. “Daniel is a gifted athlete, but he’s also an incredibly hard worker,” said Murphy. “He’s always looking for ways to improve and push himself.” The city of Milwaukee is proud of Harris’s accomplishments. Mayor Tom Barrett congratulated the young runner on his record-breaking performance and thanked him for inspiring the community. “Daniel is a role model for all young people in Milwaukee,” said Barrett. “He shows us that with dedication and hard work, we can achieve anything we set our minds to.”
