Around 8:00 AM, a park ranger discovered a backpack unattended under a bench in Citygarden, a popular public park located in the city’s downtown. The ranger immediately notified the authorities. The SLPD Bomb Squad responded to the scene and secured the area. A bomb-sniffing dog was deployed to examine the package, which is described as being black and containing wires. “The safety of our citizens is our top priority,” said SLPD Chief John Hayden. “We are taking all necessary precautions to investigate this package and ensure that there is no threat to the public.” Citygarden has been evacuated, and several surrounding streets have been closed to traffic. Buildings in the vicinity have been advised to stay indoors and evacuate if necessary. The investigation is ongoing, and the SLPD is asking the public for information that may lead to the identification of the person or persons responsible for placing the package. “We urge anyone who saw anything suspicious in Citygarden this morning to contact the police,” said Hayden. “Your information could be crucial to solving this case.” The SLPD is encouraging citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or packages to the authorities immediately.
