New Haven Expands Public Bike Share Program’s Operating HoursNew Haven Expands Public Bike Share Program’s Operating Hours New Haven, CT – The City of New Haven has announced an extension of operating hours for its public bike share program, known as Elm City Bikeshare. Effective immediately, the program will now operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Previously, bikes were only available for rental between 6:00 AM and 10:00 PM. “We’re excited to offer extended hours for our Bike Share program to better meet the needs of our residents and visitors,” said Mayor Justin Elicker. “This will allow people to take advantage of our bike paths and trails at any time of day or night.” The extension of hours is a response to increased demand for the service. Since its launch in 2020, Elm City Bikeshare has become a popular mode of transportation for New Haven residents and commuters. “We’ve seen a steady increase in ridership over the past year,” said Doug Hausladen, Director of Transportation, Traffic & Parking. “Extending the hours of operation will make the program even more accessible and convenient.” Elm City Bikeshare offers a fleet of 250 bikes at 30 stations located throughout the city. The program is available to both annual and daily members. “Having bikes available 24 hours a day will make it easier for people to get around town,” said Jennifer Carrera, a frequent Bikeshare rider. “It’s a great way to reduce traffic congestion and promote healthy living.” The extended hours of operation are expected to be particularly beneficial for students at area colleges and universities, as well as people who work evening or night shifts.
